CHAMPAGNE TOURNAMENT

Forrester Park Tennis club's May 'Champagne' tournament was held at the weekend with all proceeds going to the Helen Rollanson Charity. After weeks of rain, the sun brought out a large field for the May tournament which was organised by Michael Hull. Based upon a round robin format of mixed doubles, there were prizes given for the highest scoring male and female player. All of the matches in the 6 rounds were very close and at the half way stage, Sean Emmett was leading the mens competitiion with Myles Salmon in second place following strong starts by both players. In the Ladies competition at the half way stage, Rita Ronn and Anne Cooper were tied for first place. As the last round was started, four men and four ladies were still in with a chance of winning the respective competitions with late surges from a number of players. In the end, a 3-2 win by Martin Duke and partner Marylyn North gave him victory in the mens competition by one point and a 5-0 win by Anne Cooper and Myles Salmon against Rita Ronn and Keith Hollingsworth saw Cooper win the ladies competition.

I would like to thank you all for making the Champagne Tournament so successful and for your support and effort in making it a memorable day. Congratulations to our tournament winners, Martin and Anne and to the winners of the raffle (First Prize - Sharon; Second Prize - Martin; Third Prize - Deb). A particular thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and enabled us to raise £121 for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity. I will be passing on our thanks to the owners of the Blue Strawberry and Perrywood Nurseries who supported this event. Many thanks to Leonie for agreeing to captain the Ladies 2 team again.
You will see that Mixed 1 and 2 are in different divisions this year which is where they should be after last years hiccups by the Chelmsford League, the details of which are too long for this news letter.

The Forrester Park website is being expanded to include more information about the tennis section this year. They have already put the home fixtures on the site (see below) and we hope to feed the results in so you know how the various teams are doing. We will endeavour to put as much info on here as possible, thanks to Annie. If you have anything to go on the site, then please contact Annie at the club or via annie@forresterparkltd.com.

COACHING 2012
Last year we ran a very successful series of subsidised coaching evening with Libby on a Wednesday. We plan to repeat this again this year but would like your feedback on what day / time is most convenient for you as we are aware that not everyone can make Wednesday evenings. This will also depend upon Libby’s availability, so please let me know your thoughts on this.
The subsidy will come from our own club funds which are generated from the payment of ball money at the mix in sessions – hence why we make a £1 charge for the mix in sessions.

We are always happy to offer members an opportunity to get involved on the committee or to organise an event in order to help spread the load. If you feel such an inclination then please let Libby or me know.
